We read for the first time on the word translated as 'Birthright' in the Esau and Yaaqob account and hidden in this account is Mashiyach. This short study is an exposition on what the birthright means and how it is given to the younger brother in giving him the right to the inheritance to the firstborn.
The Abary word for 'birthright' is bakarah/bakurah and is the Strong's number H1062
Gen 25:31 But Yaʽaqoḇ said, “Sell me your birthright/ Barakah (H1062) today.”
The word comes from the root word 'bakur/bakar' which means 'firstborn/firstfruits' H1060
The word 'bakarah' has the root words 'Bar' (H1248) which means 'Son', 'Rah' which means to 'fear' (H7297), 'Karah/Kar' (H3738) which means 'to dig/open out' & 'barah' (H1262) which means 'to eat/give meat'
This word is closely related to the word 'barak' which means to bless or 'barakah' which means 'blessing'
Hidden within the word 'bakarah' is the story of Esau and Yaaqob as it's the story of the Sons/Bar both claiming to be inheritor of the blessing/barakah, one stronger than the other, one fearing/rah the other, opening out/karah the savoury meat which typified the meat/barah the Son would give through his Sonship.
It's amazing to see the word 'Edom' is spelled the same way as 'Adam' is spelled
Gen 25:30 And Ěsaw said to Yaʽaqoḇ, “Please feed me with that same red/Adam (H122) stew, for I am weary.” That is why his name was called Eḏom (H123).
The red stew the word for 'red' there is 'adam'. Esau sold the firstfruits for adam/red.He was the firstborn and hence he became father of Edom/Adam, carnal from dust.
While Yaaqob the younger brother took away the firstfruits which belonged to the eldest son. The 'bakarah' is Mashiyach. Mashiyach is the bakarak/firstfruits, the handing over the bakarah/firstfruits to the younger brother was in the perfect will of Yahuah as he ordained it this way. Let's see how:
It's amazing to see Yahusha calls us his brethren.
Heb 2:12 saying, “I shall announce Your Name to My brothers,in the midst of the congregation I shall sing praise to You.”
Yahusha came as the first fruits and we are kind of firstfruits.
Col 1:15 He is the image of the invisible the Elohim, the firstborn/bakur of all creation.
Col 1:18 He is the head of the body, the assembly; who is the beginning, the firstborn/bakur from the dead, so that He might have the preeminence in everything.
Mashiyach is the bakur/bakar over all creation and also bakur/bakar from the dead and in all things is preeminent. He is before all things and by him all things consist. We have received the Ruach/Spirit of adoption making us kind of firstfruits/bakarah of his creatures having the bakarah of his Ruach and one day we will be transformed into his image and likeness to inherit the barakah of the Son.
Jam 1:18 Of His own will He brought us forth by the word of truth, so that we would be a kind of first fruits/bakarah among His creatures.
Rom 8:23 And not only this, but also we ourselves, having the first fruits/bakarah of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting eagerly for our adoption as sons, the redemption of our body.
Rev 14:4 These are the ones who have not been defiled with women, for they have kept themselves chaste. These are the ones who follow after the Lamb wherever He goes. These have been purchased from among men as first fruits/bakarah to Elohim and to the Lamb.
Mashiyach is the elder brother/ahk
The Abary word for Esau:
Ashu/Esau- ayin/eye shin/destroys the uau/nail
He sold his bakarah to Yaaqob his younger brother and it was said the older shall serve the younger.
Gen 25:23 And יהוה said to her, “Two nations are in your womb, and two peoples shall be separated from your body. And one people shall be stronger than the other, and the older/rab serve the younger/tsaur.”
Matt 23:8 “But do not be called Rabbi/Rabay; for One is your Teacher, and you are all brothers.”
The word 'Rabay'/Rabbi has the root word 'rab' and the two nations in the womb is the separation of Mashiyach and his seed and Adam and his seed, one heavenly which will be stronger than the other and the older/rab will serve the younger/tsaur is fullfilled by Mashiyach who strengthens his brethren by serving them.
The word 'tsaur' translated as 'young' has the root word 'tsar' which means 'enemy/trouble/distress/affliction/sorrow'. It also has the root word 'tsur' which means 'besiege/assault/sharp edge/rock or flint/strength'. It also has the root word 'ar' which means 'naked/bare skin'.
Tsar:
Tsur:
Ar:
The rab/elder who was our Rabay our Master himself served the younger/tsaur who was naked/ar, enemy/tsar and one who assaulted/tsur him.
The prophesy finds its fulfillment in Mashiyach who is the older who served the younger by giving us his birthright to make us sons of Alahym.
Joh 1:12 But as many as received Him, to them He gave the authority to become children of Elohim, to those believing in His Name,
Joh 1:13 who were born, not of blood nor of the desire of flesh nor of the desire of man, but of Elohim.
He became a servant and washed his disciples feet.
In Esau and Yaaqob account is hidden the Barakah who is Mashiyach who took the hate and death upon himself to redeem his younger brother.
It was written Yaaqob have I loved but Esau have I hated
Mal 1:2 “I have loved you,” said יהוה. “But you asked, ‘In what way have You loved us?’ “Was not Ěsaw Yaʽaqoḇ’s brother?” declares יהוה. “And I love Yaʽaqoḇ,
Mal 1:3 but I have hated Ěsaw, and have laid waste his mountains and his inheritance for the jackals of the wilderness.”
Mal 1:4 If Eḏom says, “We have been beaten down, let us return and build the ruins,” יהוה of hosts said thus: “Let them build, but I tear down. And they shall be called ‘Border of Wrongness’, and the people against whom יהוה is enraged forever.
Rom 9:13 as it has been written, “Yaʽaqoḇ I have loved, but Ěsaw I have hated.”
Rom 9:14 What, then, shall we say? Is there unrighteousness with Elohim? Let it not be!
Rom 9:15 For He says to Mosheh, “I shall favour whomever I favour, and I shall have compassion on whomever I have compassion.”
Rom 9:16 So, then, it is not of him who is wishing, nor of him who is running, but of Elohim who shows favour.
There is no unrighteousness with Alahym, he demonstrated by loving Yaaqob and placing his hate/wrath on Mashiyach who paid the price for his younger brother by willfully giving him his birthright/bakarah.
That's why we prevail over Edom/ Adam in Mashiyach. The red/adam given over to Edom/Adam, while the Barakah -birthright to The younger brother.
YashaYahu 63:1 Who is this coming from Eḏom/Adum, with garments of glowing colours from Botsrah, who is robed in splendour, striding forward in the greatness of His strength? “It is I who speak in righteousness, mighty to save.”
2 Why is there red/ ADAM on Your raiment, and Your garments like one who treads in the winepress?
3 “I have trodden the winepress alone, and from the peoples no one was with Me. And I trod them down in My displeasure, and I trampled them in My wrath. Their blood is sprinkled upon My garments, and I have defiled all My raiment.
Check these scriptures above where it speaks of Mashiyach.
Psalms 108:9 “Mo’aḇ is My wash-pot, Over Eḏom/Adum I cast/shalak My shoe/naal or naalah (H5275), Over Philistia I raise a shout.”
10 Who would bring me into the strong city? Who shall lead me to Eḏom?
'naal' has the root word ayl which means rise/ascend
The seed/nun ascends/ayl
The shoe or sandal is the trampling of the firstborn which sin Esau did spiritually and Yahuah says on Edom he will cast his sandal/naal
Psa 41:9 Even my own friend in whom I trusted, who ate my bread, Has lifted up his heel ascending/AYL on me.
Joh 13:18 “I do not speak concerning all of you. I know whom I have chosen, but that the Scripture might be filled, ‘He who eats bread with Me has lifted up his heel ascending/AYL on Me.’
While this scripture finds it's fulfillment in Yahudah/Judas who betrayed Mashiyach and is the Ban ha Abadun/Son of perdition, we were/are no better than Yahudah/Judas who betrayed Mashiyach and were on the same path as he but because of the love of Mashiyach who willfully gave his bakarah/birthright to us we will be saved.
In Psalms 108:9 shalak they translated as cast away. Shalak also means to cast lots
Shalak:
Ruth 4:6 And the redeemer said, “I am not able to redeem it for myself, lest I ruin my own inheritance. Redeem my right of redemption for yourself, for I am not able to redeem it.”
7 And this was formerly done in Yisra’ĕl concerning redeeming and exchanging, to confirm every word: one man took off his sandal/naal and gave it to the other, and this was a witness in Yisra’ĕl.
8 So the redeemer said to Boʽaz, “Buy it for yourself.” Then he took off/shalap his sandal/naal.
Check this out as this became a custom as commanded in the Turah where a brother or the closest relative refused to take brothers or closest relative as wife to give her a seed
Deut 25:9 then his brother’s wife shall come to him in the presence of the elders, and remove his sandal from his foot, and shall spit in his face, and answer and say, ‘Thus it is done to the man who does not build up his brother’s house.’
10 “And in Yisra’ĕl his name shall be called, ‘The house of him who had his sandal/naal (H5275) removed.’
Why is Yahuah saying in Psalms 108:9 over Edom/Adam I cast/shalak my shoe/naal?
Esau held the bakarah/birthright lightly and sold it to his brother. He refused the redemption just as the close relative or brother refused to redeem his brothers wife who went childless, so over Edom will I cast my shoe/naal i.e. nun/seed ayl/ascend. According to the Turah the wife of the brother or close relative had to take away the shoe/naal and spit on the face of him.
We see the beautiful picture of redemption that Yahusha was stripped of his garments and sandals and they spat on his face.
Matt 26:67 Then they spat in His face and beat Him with their fists; and others slapped Him,
The birthright/barakah can never be sold. It always belongs to the firstborn son. Esau did not have regard for the 'Barakah' but for red/adam stew he agreed to give it off to his younger brother Yaaqob. But Yaaqob took away the birthright from his father by posing himself as Esau.
Heb 12:16 lest there be anyone who whores, or profane one, like Ěsaw, who for a single meal sold his birthright.
17 For you know that afterward, when he wished to inherit the blessing, he was rejected, for he found no place for repentance, though he sought it with tears.
Thus Yaaqob always lived in fear of his brother Esau for he feared Esau would kill him. Esau knew what he lost and he sought repentance but he did not find it. Yahuah designed it this way because the birthright/bakarah of the firstborn had to be given to the younger son.
Even parable of lost son. The elder brother argued with the father when he saw the father gave the younger son a fine robe and killed a fatted calf for him.
Luke 15:22 “But the father said to his slaves, ‘Quickly bring out the best robe and put it on him, and put a ring on his hand and sandals/naalyam on his feet’”;
The elder brother is Yasharal after the flesh. Of the seed of Adam. Remember we saw Edom is spelled in the same way as Adam.Hence Yahusha came as the Son of Adam and handed over his bakarah to us the younger brother willfully showing us his love for us.
Mashiyach coming from Edom as mentioned in YashaYahu 63 is coming in judgement staining his garment with the red/adam as it is he alone who can give the bakarah. He is the firstborn/first begotten Son.
The Abary word for 'birthright' is bakarah/bakurah and is the Strong's number H1062
