A Rolling away of reproach by rolling back to Yahuah

Matt 27:33 And when they came to a place called Galgalta, which means Place of a Skull, saying..

In our previous study Hebraic roots or Greek culture we saw various words (we won't go into details of that study) which Greek and other translations couldn't translate and kept the transliteration of these words intact. Among the words Amen, Hosanna, raca etc one such word is Galgalta.

John 19:17 And He went out, bearing His cross, to the place called the Skull, which is called in Hebrew, Galgalta.

On a surface level it's just a place where our Master was crucified but there is a purpose and a deep spiritual meaning rooted in this word which can only be brought forth beautifully when we compare spiritual with spiritual.

First of all we need to get facts right from scripture to find out where Galgalta was.

The Turah says that the sin offering is to be slaughtered north of the altar (Lev 1:11)

Le 1:11 And he shall kill it on the side of the altar northward before Yahuah and the priests, Aaron's sons, shall sprinkle his blood round about upon the altar.

Galgalta was on Mount Moriah just outside the northern gate of the city of Jerusalem. What happened on Mount Moriah was significant.

Gen.22:2 He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

2Chr.3:1 Then Solomon began to build the house of Yahuah in Jerusalem on Mount Moriah, where Yahuah had appeared to David his father, at the place that David had appointed, on the threshing floor of Ornan the Jebusite.

We have scripture confirming that this was the same place where Abraham offered the ram caught with it's thickets in the place of his son Isaac and had named as Yahuah Yarah which means 'In the mount of Yahuah it will be provided'

Gen 22:14 Abraham called the name of that place Yahuah Yarah, as it is said to this day, in the mount of Yahuah it will be provided.

And this place was on the outskirts of Jerusalem where Solomon had built the house of Yahuah.

Heb 13:12 Therefore Yahusha also, that He might sanctify the people through His own blood, suffered outside the gate.

It was the site of public executions in the city used by Romans and Jewish authorities. The Hebrew word 'Galgalta' comes from the root word 'Galgal' which is translated as Gilgal. What was significant about Galgal (Gilgal) ?

Jos 5:2 At that time Yahuah said to Yahusha (Joshua), Make for yourself flint knives and circumcise again the sons of Yisharal the second time

Jos 5:3 So Yahusha made himself flint knives and circumcised the sons of Yisharal at Gibeath-haaraloth (hill of foreskins)
Jos 5:4 This is the reason why Yahusha circumcised them: all the people who came out of Egypt who were males, all the men of war, died in the wilderness along the way after they came out of Egypt.
Jos 5:5 For all the people who came out were circumcised, but all the people who were born in the wilderness along the way as they came out of Egypt had not been circumcised.
Jos 5:6 For the sons of Yisharal walked forty years in the wilderness, until all the nation, that is, the men of war who came out of Egypt, perished because they did not listen to the voice of Yahuah, to whom Yahuah had sworn that He would not show them the land which Yahuah had sworn to their fathers to give us, a land flowing with milk and honey.
Jos 5:7 Their sons whom He raised up in their place, Yahusha circumcised
Jos 5:8 And it came to pass, when all the nation had finished being circumcised, they remained in their places in the camp until they were healed
Jos 5:9 Then Yahuah said to Yahushua, This day I have rolled away the reproach of Egypt from you. So the name of that place is called Galgal (Gilgal) to this day.

The Hebrew word 'Galgal' means 'to roll away reproach'. Joshua (Hebrew name: Yahusha) led Yisharal accross the Yarden (Jordan) where all the males who crossed over were uncircumcised because the generation of the stiff necked people who were circumcised died in the wilderness with their children crossing over who were uncircumcised. We see Yahuah telling Yahusha (Joshua) that he has 'ROLLED AWAY THE REPROACH' of Egypt from Yisharal, hence the place was renamed from Gibeath-haaraloth  which means hill of foreskins to Galgal (Gilgal) which means 'Rolled away the reproach'.

It's interesting to note that there were four things that happened to Yisharal significantly in this place which was name 'Galgal'

1) All sons of Yisharal were circumcised

2) Yisharal observed their first Passover after crossing over to Canaan at Galgal.

Jos 5:10 ¶ And the children of Yisharal encamped in Galgal (Gilgal), and kept the passover on the fourteenth day of the month at even in the plains of Jericho.

3) The manna ceased after they had eaten of the old corn of the land

Jos 5:11 On the morrow after the Passover, on the selfsame day, they ate of the produce of the land, unleavened cakes and parched grain.

Jos 5:12 The manna ceased on the morrow after they had eaten of the produce of the land; neither the sons of Yisrael had manna any more; but they ate of the yield of the land of Canaan during that year.

4) The captain of the hosts of Yahuah met Joshua in this place who asked him to remove his sandals as the place he stood was holy ground.

Jos 5:13 Now it came about when Yahusha was by Jericho (Galgal was besides Jericho), that he lifted up his eyes and looked, and behold, a man was standing opposite him with his sword drawn in his hand, and Yahusha went to him and said to him, Are you for us or for our adversaries?

Jos 5:14 He said, No; For I now come as captain of the host of Yahuah. And Yahusha fell on his face to the earth, and bowed down, and said to Him, What has my Master to say to his servant?
Jos 5:15 The captain of the host of Yahuah said to Yahusha, Remove your sandals from your feet, for the place on which you are standing is holy. And Yahusha did so.

This place Galgal ties up spiritually with what our Messiah did for us at Galgalta. Joshua (Yahusha) was a type of our Master Yahusha. Even his name was Yahusha. What Joshua did on one hill in shadows our Messiah did on another in fulfilling that shadow.

1) That's where our destiny was sealed as we were circumcised in the heart, our reproach rolled away. Hill of foreskins (a physical circumcision) transition to the heart circumcision (Rom 2:28-29,Phil 3:3).

2) Yahusha our Master is our Passover lamb who was sacrificed
3) The manna which gave susteanance in the wilderness journey ceased, now Yisharal would eat the produce of the land, a land flowing with milk and honey. Canaan was a type of Heavenly Jerusalem.
3) The captain of the hosts of Yahuah is our Master Yahusha himself which will lead armies into battle of the great day of the Almighty.

Re 19:14 And the armies which were in heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean.

Galgal comes from the root Hebrew word 'gal' which means 'to roll'/'round'

Ps 22:8 He rolls (gal) to Yahuah; let Him deliver him; Let Him rescue him, because He delights in him.

Ps119:22 Roll (gal) away reproach and contempt from me, for I observe Your testimonies.

'Galgal' is also translated as 'whirlwind' and 'Wheels' which also shows the rounding/rolling of the wheels and whirlwind.

Ps 77:18 The sound of your thunder was in the whirlwind (galgal); the lightnings lit up the world; the earth trembled and shook

Isa5:26 He shall lift up a standard to the distant nation, and shall whistle for it from the ends of the earth; and behold, it shall come with speed swiftly.

Isa5:27 None shall be weary nor stumble among them, none shall slumber nor sleep; nor shall the girdle of their loins be loosed, nor the latchet of their shoes be broken.
Isa5:28 Its arrows are sharp and all its bows are bent; the hoofs of its horses shall appear like flint and its wheels (galgal) like a whirlwind.

Galilee (Josh 20:7 'Galyil'), Gilead (31:21 'Galid'), Golan (Deut 4:43 'Goylan'), Gilgal (Galgal) or even Golgotha (Galgalta), all of which have the same root 'gal' which means something round/ a roll. One variation is “galgal”, which is the wheel of a chariot that goes around.  Another variation is “megillah” or roll, like the roll of Jeremiah.
Jer 36:2 Take thee a roll (megillah) of a scroll, and write therein all the words that I have spoken unto thee against Israel, and against Judah, and against all the nations, from the day I spake unto thee, from the days of Josiah, even unto this day.
or a roll like YashaYahu (Isaiah)
Isa 8:1 ¶ Moreover Yahuah said unto me, Take thee a great roll (gilayon), and write in it with a man's pen concerning Mahershalalhashbaz.
'Galgal' can also mean a whirlwind because the wind whips around in a circle.
Ps 23:3 He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths (magal) of righteousness for his name's sake.
From the word 'magal' which has the 'gal' we see Alahim leading a righteous one walking in the cycles of the Torah commandments.  So we can compare how a wagon wheel follows inside the ruts of the road with how one walks in the cycle of the Torah.
Now we add the letter א (aleph) to גל (gal) to form the word גאל (ga’al), which means the bringing around of someone through a buying back or, more simply, “to redeem”.  It can also mean to restore to an original position.  You might recognize the term go’el, the kinsman redeemer, whose role was to redeem or deliver a family member who was in slavery.  Yahusha our Master is our kinsman redeermer who has bought us back.
Now coming to 'Galgalta', why is it called the place of the Skull?

Ex 16:16 This is the thing which Yahuah has commanded, Gather of it (manna) every man according to the mouth of his eating; you shall take an omer for a head (galgalath) according to the number of your souls, each man for those who are in his tent.

Let's review what we learnt 'Gal' means round. 'Galgal' means 'rolled away the reproach'. Now let's view the word 'Galgalath' which means head/skull in Paleo Hebrew:

The word 'Galgalta' and 'galgalath' which means 'head' or the 'skull' have the root word 'galgal' which means 'rolled away the reproach'. We already saw that the word 'galgal' comes from root word 'gal' which means 'round'/'roll'.

'Galgaltha' :  Ga La Ga La Tau : has the word 'Galgal' (which means 'rolled away the reproach') and the letter Tau (which means covenant). Put together 'Rolled away the reproach through Covenant'

This word 'galgalath' is used in the Turah to show redemption price for each 'head' (head is a rounded skull) of those who crossed over.
Manna-an omer for a head (galgalath)
The gold and the silver in the offering-a bekah for a head (galgalath)
A redemption price-five shekels apiece, per head (galgalath)
Taking a sum (measure) of head

Ex 38:26 a beka for a head (galgalath) (that is, half a shekel according to the shekel of the sanctuary), for each one who passed over to those who were numbered, from twenty years old and upward, for six hundred and three thousand, five hundred and fifty men.

Num3:46 For the ransom of the two hundred seventy-three of the firstborn of the sons of Yisrael who are in excess beyond the Levites,

Num 3:47 you shall take five shekels apiece, per head (galgalath); you shall take them by the shekel of the sanctuary (the shekel is twenty gerahs),
Num 3:48 and give the money, the ransom of those who are in excess among them, to Aharon and to his sons.

Nu 1:2 Take ye the sum of all the congregation of the children of Israel, after their families, by the house of their fathers, with the number of their names, every male by their heads (galgalath);

Breaking of Abimelech's skull, exposing of Jezebel's skull, hanging of Saul's head which speaks of the rebellious ones standing against the anointed being destroyed. Thus 'Galgalath' here for them would mean 'Rolled back the reproach through a Sign'. Tau also means Sign/Mark.

Jg 9:53 And a certain woman cast a piece of a millstone upon Abimelech's head, and all to brake his skull (galgalath).

2Ki 9:35 And they went to bury her (Jezebel): but they found no more of her than the skull (galgalath), and the feet, and the palms of her hands.

1Ch 10:10 And they put his (king Saul) armour in the house of their gods, and fastened his head (galgalath) in the temple of Dagon.

Galgalta was the place where Yahusha our Master would pay the redemption price for each head/skull who was appointed to be saved and would destroy every skull of those who stood against him through a Sign/Mark.

Galgalta in Paleo Hebrew:

Ga la Ga la Tau Aleph (Hebrew reads from right to left)

We already saw the meaning of 'Galgal' which means 'Rolled away the reproach' . Now let's view the 'Tau Aleph'

'Tau-Aleph' forms the word 'Taa' which means 'little chamber'. (Please refer to my study on this blog titled 'Tau Aleph -Taa'

Eze 40:4 The man said to me, Son of man, see with your eyes, hear with your ears, and set your heart to all that I shall show you. For in order to show you, you have been brought here. Declare to the house of Yisharal all that you see.
Eze 40:5 And behold, there was a wall on the outside of the house all around, and in the man’s hand was a measuring rod of six cubits, with a cubit and a span. So he measured the thickness of the building, one rod; and the height, one rod
Eze 40:6 Then he went to the gate which faced the eastward, went up its steps and measured the threshold of the gate, one rod in width; and one threshold was one rod in width.
Eze 40:7 And a LITTLE CHAMBER (TAA) was one rod long and one rod wide; and there were five cubits between the LITTLE CHAMBERS (TAA). And the threshold of the gate from beside the porch of the gate, from the house, was one rod.

Ezekiel saw these little chambers in the spiritual temple of Yahuah where the treasures were kept. 9 times in Ezekiel 40 Alahim uses the word 'TAA' for little chambers and shows the dimensions of it as measured by the Messenger whose appearance was as Bronze. You may read it in Eze 40:7,10,12,13,16,21,29,33,36. It's like the heart in which the treasure is and our body is the temple of the Ruach ha Qodesh (Holy Spirit).

In Galgalta we see a beautiful picture of a redemption price being paid for each head in 'Rolling away the reproach (Galgal) in the temple's secret chamber ( heart (Taa)').

The root word 'gal' in 'Galgal' shows the 'rolling back to Yahuah' as seen in Pslams 22:8 & 'rolling away of reproach for keeping Yahuah's testimonies in Pslams 119:22. The rolling back to Yahuah would result in the rolling away of the reproach.

This word is also used in many places as rolling away of stone and we will not look into details of the usage of this word for lack of time.

Satan has been wanting to sit on “the mount of assembly” (har-moyed), or the appointed festivals to be worshipped. The mount of the appointed times is Mt. Moriah of course because that is where the people came to keep the festivals because the Temple was there (built by Solomon), now called the Temple Mount.

Isa14:13 But you said in your heart, I shall ascend to heaven; I shall raise my throne above the stars of AL and I shall sit on the mount of assembly (har-moyed) in the sides of the north.

Galgalta was on the north side of Jerusalem, in the place as per the requiste as per Turah as stated in Lev 1:11 at the north and that's where Satan wants to make his throne, representing a false messiah and deceiving multitudes.

Satan desires to sit himself on the mount through intelligence and wisdom, the place of the skull or the “battle for the head/skull” by replacing Alahim's Turah with something else. This battle is talked about in Revelation 16:14,16: “For they (the frogs of v13 who speak lies) are the spirits of unclean devils, working miracles, which go forth unto the kings of the earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of Alahim Almighty” and v16 says “ and he gathered them together to a place called in the Hebrew tongue Armageddon. Armageddon is spiritually “har moyed” or the “mount of assembly” or the appointed times where Satan makes his seat in changing times and laws leading people to Torah-less.

Ps15:1 O Yahuah, who may abide in Your tent? Who may dwell on Your holy hill?

Ps24:3 Who may ascend into the hill of Yahuah? And who may stand in His holy place?

Only the elect who observe the Turah will abide in his holy hill.

The elect have not followed the lies of all the “frogs” out there who are trying to deceive the nations into letting Satan sit on the mount of assembly and to come and worship him with replacing the Turah. All the rebellious skulls will be broken.

Finally  the letters 'Ga La' which is ' (Gamal: Rich man, Lamed: leading) in the words 'Galgal','Galgalath' and 'Galgalta' shows the 'Rich man i.e the Messiah leading his people back to him'.

May Yahusha bless you to understand this study to help you roll back to him in obedience to his Turah.
