The following note is to address the gap theory between Gen 1:1 and Gen 1:2. The things that captures the eyes at first glance termed as first blush meaning is as follows. This was discussed in our chat group and this was a view presented:
Job 38:7 When the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of Elohim shouted for joy?
Isaiah 14:12 How art thou fallen from heaven, O Hellel, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!
Luke 10:18 And he said unto them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven.
Jude 1:6 And the angels which kept not their first estate, but left their own habitation, he hath reserved in everlasting chains under darkness unto the judgment of the great day.
These verses tell of a time before the creation of man. A time that I suspect happened on this land before a great judgment and catastrophe that turned that world chaotic and void.
In the beginning Elohim created the heaven and the earth.
There is a creation.
And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of Elohim moved upon the face of the waters.
Going from a created heaven and earth to the earth was without form and void is confusion.
John 8:44 “He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him.”
From the beginning in this verse talks about creation in gen 1:1 before humanity.
Which day was mankind created?
Gen 1 v3 created lights
V6-8 created another heaven? Look at v1
And if we keep reading it’s the same. He’s creating another creation after the creation in v1 End of quote.
As iron sharpens iron, the presentation is legitimate and brain storms to seek and to search what scriptures present. We learn that which brings us to a fence and a solid proof makes us take a position based on scripture. Without Yahusha’s Ruach we wouldn’t be able to cross over to a definite position as sitting on a fence is a dangerous place to be as whatever is not of faith is sin. My prayer is that the readers understand the presentation made from scriptures and not be rigid in the hardness of their hearts. Be it this presentation or any other scriptural presentation. So let’s begin!
Gen 1:1 the order of creation is heavens and earth (the spiritual)
Gen 1:1 In the beginning Elohim created the את heavens and ואת the earth.
Gen 2:4 gives us the summary of the creation
Gen 2:4 These are the births of the heavens and the earth when they were created, in the day that יהוה Elohim made earth and heavens.
The heavens and the earth (spiritual) were created in the day Yahuah Elohim made the earth and the heavens (physical)
Hence, Gen 1:2 can’t be a gap theory for a spiritual realm.
Gen 1:2 shows the small beginnings where Yahuah Elohim created from darkness to Light and separated both. The picture is of everything that was external to Him in the physical world, became integral as His body with His Ruach fullness gives it the structure and fullness where thohu and bohu is eliminated. For details please visit my note on ‘Small beginnings’ which is on my blog.
So when did the Messengers fall?
Scripture doesn’t give a single timestamp, but we have key scenes to consider from Ezekiel 28
Ezk 28:13 “You were in Ěḏen, the garden of Elohim. Every precious stone was your covering: the ruby, topaz, and diamond, beryl, shoham, and jasper, sapphire, turquoise, and emerald and gold. The workmanship of your settings and mountings was prepared for you on the day you were created.
Ezk 28:14 “You were the anointed keruḇ that covered. And I placed you, you were on the set-apart mountain of Elohim. You walked up and down in the midst of stones of fire.
Ezk 28:16 “By the greatness of your trade you became filled with violence within, and you sinned. So I thrust you from the mountain of Elohim, and I destroyed you, O covering keruḇ, from the midst of the stones of fire.
Ezk 28:17 “Your heart was lifted up because of your loveliness, you corrupted your wisdom for the sake of your splendour. I threw you to the earth, I laid you before sovereigns, to look at you.
Ezk 28:18 “You profaned your set-apart places by your many crookednesses, by the unrighteousness of your trading. Therefore I brought forth fire from your midst. It has devoured you, and I will turn you to ashes upon the earth before the eyes of all who see you.
Although addressed to a human king, the description goes far beyond a human, pointing to a heavenly being (anointed cherub) who was in Eden, and was cast down due to pride. This is widely understood to be a dual prophecy — against the king of Tyre and the spiritual power behind him (often identified as Satan).
Timing? Before Genesis 3, since Satan (serpent) was already fallen and present in the garden.
Key verses: You seal up the sum, full of wisdom, and perfect in beauty.
You were in Eden, the garden of Elohim; every precious stone was your covering…”
Every precious stone…” — matches the 12 stones of the High Priest (Exodus 28:17–20), but only 9 are listed here — implying a loss of priestly position or authority.
In Eden” — no historical king of Tyre was in Eden. This points to a pre-fall heavenly context.
Ezekiel 28:14 “You were the anointed cherub that covers; and I set you so: you were upon the holy mountain of Elohim…”
Anointed cherub that covers” — this is direct language of the cherubim in the tabernacle who covered the Ark, representing guardianship of divine presence.
Set Apart mountain” — symbolic of Yahuah’s throne, His heavenly dwelling in Tsiyon ie. His people( Isaiah 14:13; Psalm 48:1-2).
This being held a high priestly, guardian role — until pride and rebellion entered.
Eze 28:17 ….I threw you to the earth,….
Cast down to the earth — echoes Revelation 12 and Luke 10:18 (“I saw Satan fall like lightning”).
Isaiah 14: The “Shining One” Who Fell
A taunt against the king of Babylon (Isaiah 14:4), but from verse 12 onward, the language transcends human description.
Isaiah 14:12 “How you are fallen from heaven, O Heilel, son of the dawn!”
“You are cut down to the ground, who weakened the nations!”
Heilel (הילל ) = “shining one” or “bright one” also root word halal הלל which means ‘praise’
In fallen state, that’s how he accesses praise of Yahuah and twists it to deceive.
Son of the morning” = a created being of glory and high rank reflecting the Bright and Morning Star’s esteem. Shows , everything that he had before the fall was Yahusha’s esteem in a reflection/ mirror image.
Fallen from heaven” — not just fallen in rank, but cast down from heavenly position. Here heaven in harmony with Ezekiel 28 is to be understood as Garden of Eden.
Sides of the north:
Isa 14:13 “For you have said in your heart, ‘Let me go up to the heavens, let me raise my throne above the stars of Ěl, and let me sit in the mount of appointment on the sides of the north;
What is on the sides of the north?
Psa 48:1 Great is יהוה, and greatly to be praised In the city of our Elohim, His set-apart mountain.
Psa 48:2 Beautiful on high, The joy of all the earth, Is Mount Tsiyon on the sides of the north, The city of the great Sovereign.
The northern approach to Yerushalayim was often the strategic and vulnerable side — most invaders (Assyrians, Babylonians) came from the north. Yahuah seated there shows, Yahuah protected Yerushalayim until they rebelled against Him and He brought Assyrians and Babylonians from this side.
Directly east of Yahudah lies the Yarden river, the Dead Sea, and the Arabian desert — not ideal for moving armies. The Syrian desert and harsh terrain made direct invasion from the east extremely difficult.
Invading empires traveled along the Fertile Crescent: Mesopotamia → up into Syria → then down through Lebanon into northern YasharEL.
This is why the prophet Jeremiah (and others) constantly warn:
“From the north shall evil break forth…” (Jeremiah 1:14)
Jer 6:1 Blow the trumpet in Tekoa…
for evil appears out of the north, and great destruction.”
Eze 26:7 From the north, I will bring Nebuchadnezzar against Tyre.”
Satan: “I will sit on the mount of the congregation on the sides of the north” (Isaiah 14:13)
Babylon was geographically east of YasharEL. Babylon’s armies did not come directly from the east — that route was extremely harsh and impassable for large forces.
They followed the Fertile Crescent route
Mount Tsiyon where Eden stood becomes the true “mount of assembly”
It is the cosmic center, throne of Yahuah, the joy of all the earth
The Mikphad altar (Hebrew: מפקד ), mentioned in Ezekiel 43:21, was outside the main Temple area, to the east.
Jewish tradition (e.g., Midrash, Targum) often identifies this eastern region — beyond the sanctuary — as the same area where Adam, Cain, and Abel offered sacrifices after being expelled eastward from Eden (Genesis 3:24).
This altar to the east matches the place where sacrifices were burned outside the camp — which Hebrews 13:11–13 applies directly to Yahusha.
Hebrews 13:12 “So Yahusha also suffered outside the gate, to set the people apart with His own blood.”
Hebrews 13:13 “Let us, then, go to Him outside the camp, bearing His reproach.”
The Mount of Olives lies directly east of the Temple Mount. This is where Yahusha was crucified — outside the gate, in the area of the mikphad altar.
This is also the pathway of the Red Heifer sacrifice (Numbers 19), which had to be done east of the sanctuary, symbolizing purification outside the camp.
Just as Adam and his sons sacrificed east of Eden, Yahusha, the Last Adam, was offered east of the Temple, on the Mount of Olives, as the final atonement.
Genesis 22:2 Go to the land of Moriah… on one of the mountains I will show you.”
This is Mount Moriah, later identified as the site of Solomon’s Temple
2 Chronicles 3:1 “Then Solomon began to build the house of Yahuah in Yerushalayim on Mount Moriah, where Yahuah had appeared to David his father…”
Abraham’s sacrifice of Isaac (Yitshaq) is a prophetic shadow of the Father offering His Son — on the same mountain.
There is a continuous, prophetic line from Eden to Mount Moriah, to the Temple Mount, and finally to the Mount of Olives, where the Lamb of Elohim fulfilled what was foreshadowed since Genesis.
These mountains form a unified altar-story:
Adam → Abel → Abraham → David → Solomon → Yahusha
Here was the temple standing where garden of Eden was and Eden was where the once anointed cherub stood with his Battalion which are now termed as fallen angels or demons
Job 38:6 Upon what were its foundations sunk? Or who laid its corner-stone,
Job 38:7 when the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of Elohim shouted for joy?
Revelation 12:4 — “his tail swept a third of the stars of heaven” (this third number includes carnal YasharaEL and angelic beings )
Some teach demons were formed due to sons of Elohim marrying daughters of men and nephilim were born. (Gen 6:4) Nephilim means fallen ones. They say these are disembodied spirits wanting a body to possess it and they love unclean animals as pigs etc.
The big problem is all this is from a human mind. This is what Yahusha taught
Matthew 22:30 — “For in the resurrection they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but are like the angels of Elohim in heaven.”
Angels do not marry, they can’t have sex with daughters of men. Shaul the emissary also teaches the glory of one body differs from another. To believe Nephilim were angels is like saying a tortoise can have sex with a woman and bear turtles 😃
Different orders of creation don’t mix biologically.
1Corinthians 15:39–40 “All flesh is not the same flesh: but there is one kind of flesh of men, another flesh of beasts, another of fishes, and another of birds.
There are also celestial bodies and terrestrial bodies: but the glory of the celestial is one, and the glory of the terrestrial is another.”
The “sons of Elohim” in Genesis 6 were covenanted, righteous men — not angels — who broke Yahuah’s boundary by marrying pagan, lawless women.
Written Torah was not given but taught by father to son and that’s how Abraham sought wife for his son Yitshaq from his covenanted family and not pagan
Esau grieving his parents by marrying Hittite (Canaanite) women (Gen 26:34–35)
So Genesis 6 reflects:
Sons of Seth (covenant line)
Marrying daughters of Cain or uncovenanted nations
Violating the principle of holy separation (cf. Deut 7:3–4)
2 Peter 2:4 — “Elohim did not spare the angels who sinned, but cast them down to Sheol and committed them to chains of gloomy darkness…”
Jude 1:6 — “…reserved in everlasting chains under darkness until the judgment…”
These are often viewed symbolically or spiritually — not necessarily physical iron chains.
Just as Shatan is not bound by a physical chain in Rev 20.
Darkness” often = separation from Yahuah:
Outer darkness = outside of the kingdom (Matt. 8:12, 22:13)
Spiritual exile — cutoff from the Light (John 1:5)
These beings are bound in spiritual darkness, awaiting judgment.
Demons is from Greek daimonion G1140. Hebrew equivalents: shedim, ruachot teme’ot
Deuteronomy 32:17 “They sacrificed to shedim (demons), not to Eloah.”
Psalm 106:37 “They sacrificed their sons and daughters to shedim (demons).”
Zechariah 13:2 And the prophets and the unclean spirit (רוח הטמאה ruach ha temeot)I will remove from the land.”
Chains of darkness = literal?
Can’t be as these spirits work behind idols, in the mouth of false prophets, in unclean relationships, in the soul or mind essence of man and beast etc.
So, the chains of darkness has to be spiritual/metaphysical confinement — a separation from divine presence
Hence, there is no gap between Gen 1:1 and Gen 1:2 as Gen 1:1 is a creation account of heavens and the earth which is spiritual and then transcends to the earthly account where Yahuah began with small beginnings ie. The earth was without a structure, unfilled by Him, waters were in a rage with no directional flow and there was thick darkness. The picture is of everything was external to Him and when He utters Gen 1:3 “ Let there be Light and there was light” , everything that was external became inherent to Him as He made the earth and the heavens in a mirror image of the heavens and the earth. Above all it says He made the heavens and the earth in the Day He made the earth and the heavens. Gen 2:4
Gen 2:4 should be correctly understood grammatically as one may say Yahuah Elohim made everything in one day.
There is no dagesh (dot) in yod of bayom ביום to make it bahayom (definitive) . So, it’s not a definite day but a period.
in a day - in English (and Hebrew too) can refer to a definite day — the one on which something was done — without using “the” in a grammatical sense.
👉 This is what we call functional definiteness — the event itself is specific, even if the language is indefinite grammatically. That one-day framing doesn’t contradict the actual duration of the event — it’s a summary perspective.
Gen 2:4 These are the births /תּלדה H8435…
H8435 toledah תלדה is from the word yalad ילד H3205 which means to beget.
Genesis 2:4 is not trying to redefine the six days as one day, nor contradict Genesis 1. Rather, it’s using biblical Hebrew idiom to frame the entire creation as a unified work, much like you’d say:
“In the day I built this house…” — even if it took 6 days, you refer to it as the day (the era, the season) of building
