Ha Shatan vs shatan:

Many people attribute the word satan to mean evil, wicked, unclean whereas the definition of satan H7854 means ‘an opponent’ whereas if prefixed by the Hebrew ‘ha’ is a definite article translated in English as ‘the’, i.e., the satan refers to actually the devil himself

Shatan From H7853; an opponent; especially (with the article prefixed) Shatan, the arch enemy of good: - adversary, Satan, withstand.

We can see the word la shatan in Hebrew being translated as ‘an adversary/opponent’ in the below scripture for Messenger of Yahuah who Yahuah Himself is

Num 22:22 But the displeasure of Elohim burned because he went, and Messenger יהוה /Malak Yahuah stationed Himself in the way as an adversary/la shatan H7854 against him. And he was riding on his donkey, and his two servants were with him.

Here, Messenger Yahuah stood in the way as an opposer to Balaam.

2 Sam 24:1 Now again the anger of Yahuah burned against Yisra’El, and it incited Dawid against them to say, Go, number Yisra’El and Yahudah

While 2 Sam 24:1 doesn’t tell us who incited David to number Yasharal and Yahudah, 1 Chr 21:1 tells us shatan (please note not ‘ha shatan’) stood up against Yasharal and moved David to number Yasharal. This act was of Yahuah Himself who stood in opposition towards Yasharal and Yahudah in putting it in David’s heart to number them so that He could bring a plague upon them.

1Chr21:1 And satan/shatan stood up against Yisra’El and moved Dawid to number Yisra’El.

There is no definite article ‘ha’ before shatan to pin point that this was the adversary/opponent of Yahuah which shows this was Messenger Yahuah who stood as adversary to Yasharal.

Ps109:4 Instead of my love they are my accusers/yashatanuni; but I am in prayer

Ps109:5 And they put on me evil for good and hatred for my love

Ps109:6 Appoint a wicked one over him, and let accuser/shatan stand at his right hand

In Psalms 109 David pours out his complaint to Yahuah against evil men who surrounded him with various accusations, in verse 4 he refers them as ‘ya shatan uni’ which is translated as ‘my accusers’. In verse 6 he prays to Yahuah to appoint a wicked one ‘shatan’ at his right hand to accuse him. No ‘ha shatan’ here but a quality of the ‘ha shatan ‘ who comes against opposing Yahuah’s people.

1Ki11:14 And raised up Yahuah adversary/shatan to Shelomoh, Hadad the Adomite; he was of the seed of the king in Edom.

1Ki 11:23 Elohim also raised up another adversary/shatan to him (Shelemoh), Rezon the son of Eliada, who had fled from his master Hadadezer king of Tsobah.

1Ki 11:24 He gathered men to himself and became leader of a band, when Dawid slew them of Tsobah; and they went to Dameseq and lived in it, and reigned in Damaseq

1Ki11:25 So he was adversary/shatan to Yisra’El all the days of Shelomoh, along with the evil that Hadad did; and he cut off in Yisra’El and reigned over Aram.

The adversary/shatan was not ‘ha shatan’ but ‘Messenger Yahuah’ fulfilling His purpose in tearing the kingdom of Yasharal from Shelemoh for Shelemoh turned away from Yahuah in worshiping foreign mighty ones by the influence of his foreign wives. This was in the plan of Yahuah in dispersing Yasharal eventually to the ends of the world from where He would gather them back again as the lost sheep of the house of Yasharal when He would come as Yahusha. In other words the adversaries/shatan Yahuah raised against Shelemoh was to fulfil His will.

1Sam 29:4 But the commanders of the Philistines were angry with him, and the commanders of the Philistines said to him, Make the man go back, that he may return to his place where you have assigned him there, and do not let him go down to battle with us, nor in the battle he may become an adversary/la shatan to us. For with what should this man reconcile himself to his master? Should it not be with the heads of these men

The commanders of Philistines call David as a potential shatan to them if in battle they take him along with them.

2 Sam19:22 Dawid then said, what have I to do with you, O sons of TseruYah, that you should this day be an adversary/la shatan to me? Should any man be put to death in Yisra’El today? For do I not know that I am king over Yisra’El today?

David tells Abishai that he is becoming an adversary/shatan to him for Abishai was asking him to put Shimei to death for cursing David. David understood that if he killed Shimei he could fall in the eyes of Yasharal for not showing mercy, he had just returned from fleeing Abshalom and Abshalom was dead who had won the hearts of people of Yasharal.

Ha Shatan:

We saw ‘la shatan’ & ‘shatan’ usage in scriptures referring to adversaries standing against Yasharal to fulfil the purpose of Yahuah.

It’s not that ha shatan (which is the actual ‘the Opposer’ to Yahuah’s purpose ) can frustrate the will of Yahuah but through his opposition to Yahuah and His people, he too actually fulfils the purpose of Yahuah. But scripture identifies him as ‘ha shatan’ where shatan is not his name but an attribute of opposing.

Job1:6 Now there was a day when the sons of the Elohim came to present themselves before Yahuah, and ha shatan/the satan also came among them.

Job 1: 6-12 & Job 2: 1-7 the Opposer/ha shatan is the accuser of brethren who came among the sons of Elohim during the feast of Unleavened bread and accused Ayob before Yahuah so that Yahuah would allow him to afflict Ayob, so that Ayob would revile Yahuah and bring an accusation against Yahuah for all the afflictions even though he is righteous. But all things work out good for those who love Elohim called according to His purpose

Rom 8:28 And behold, we know that all things to work together for good to those who love Elohim, to those who are called according to His purpose.

Zec 3:1 Then he showed me Yahushua (Joshua) the high priest standing before Messenger Yahuah, and hasatan/the accuser standing at his right hand to accuse him/shatanu

Zec 3:2 Yahuah said to hasatan, Yahuah rebuke you, hasatan! And Yahuah who has chosen Yerushalam rebuke you! Is this not a brand plucked from the fire?

The accuser/opposer stood at the right hand of Yahushua the high priest to accuse him, we have studied this account before. This is what Yahudah in his letter says ‘the shatan disputed on the body of Moshe’

Jude 1:9 But Mika’El the chief messenger, in contending with hashatan, when he disputed with him concerning the body of Mosheh, it is not his heart filled to bring a slanderous accusation against him, but said, Yahuah rebuke you!

MikaEL in Hebrew means ‘He who is as Elohim’ is Messenger Yahuah who told ‘hashatan’ that Yahuah rebuke you, this was fulfilled by ‘ha Mashiyach/the Anointed One’ who rebuked ‘ha shatan’ on the stake by His death because the high priest under the old covenant was unclean and had to offer sacrifice for himself and then for the sins of the people of Yasharal on the Day of Atonement

Zec 3:3 Now Yahushua was clothed with filthy garments and standing before the messenger.

Zec 3:4 He spoke and said to those who were standing before him, saying, Remove the filthy garments from him. And he said to him, See, I have taken your iniquity away from you and shall clothe you with festal robes/machalats.

Chalats Strongs #2504: means loins & machal H4234 means dance. Hence, they translated ‘machalats’ as ‘festal robes’ It’s actually a festal robe which covers the nakedness of the office of the high priest by the HIGH PRIEST Ha Mashiyach.

Rev 12:10 And I heard a loud voice in the heavens, saying, Now the salvation of our El and His power and His kingdom and the authority of His Mashiyach have come for the accuser/shutan of our brothers has been thrown down and stands to accuse/shatanam them before our El day and night.

Here ‘the accuser’ spelling is ‘shin uau tet nun’ is spelled as ‘shutan

Luke 10:18 And He said to them, “I saw the satan/hashatan falling like lightning from the heavens.”

By the work of Mashiyach on the stake, the accuser is cast down from the heavenly pattern as no place is found for him to come among the sons of Elohim to accuse His people.

Yahusha ha Mashiyach was tempted by ‘ha shatan’

Matt 4:1 Then `Yahusha’ was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the satan/ha shatan.

 Origin of ha shatan:

We now understand that shatan is not the name of the wicked one but an attribute to just oppose. What about the name Lucifer? The name Lucifer is an inserted name which is incorrect. The Hebrew word there is H1966 Haylal which again is not a name but is translated as ‘Shining star’

Isa 14:12 How you have fallen from heaven, O shining star (H1966-HAYLAL), son of the morning (ben-ha shachar)! You have been cut down to the earth, you who have weakened the guym (gentiles)!

Isa 14:13 But you said in your heart, I shall ascend to heaven; I shall raise my throne above the stars (kukabim) of Al, and I shall sit on the mount of assembly in the sides of the north.

Dan 12:3 Those who have insight shall shine brightly like the brightness of the expanse of heaven, and those turn the many to righteousness, like the stars (kukabim) forever and ever.

Shatan wanted to exalt his throne above the kukabim of Al, he wanted to sit on the mount of assembly in the sides of the north. And when we compare spiritual vs spiritual we see MOUNT TSIYON on the sides of the north.

Ps 48:2 Beautiful for situation, the joy of the whole earth, is mount TSION, on the sides of the norththe city of the great King.

The morning star of the stars is Yahusha ha Mashiyach and he is the ruler of the stars of Al on the sides of the north, the city whose great King is Mashiyach.

Rev 22:16 I, Yahusha, have sent My angel to testify to you these things for the assemblies. I am the root and the descendant of David, the bright morning (shachar) star (kukab).

When we understand these truths, we can now see what Shatan’s desire was. He wanted to rule in place of Mashiyach. As a covering cherub he was created to guard the pattern. He understood the pattern but distorted it to man. Hence Haylal the shining star (paradox), the son of the morning (ben-shachar again used as paradox for him) who was to reflect the light of Aluahym as a star in the dark night by guarding the pattern (i.e. Mashiyach the takanayth) claimed ownership of that pattern.

Haylal being son of the morning is paradox because he never was. He wanted to become the heir; he was created to guard the way to Mashiyach.

Haylal comes from the root word ‘halal’ (Strong’s 1984) which means shine and also means praise as used in HallalUYah.

Psalms 150:6 Let everything that has breath. HalleluYah (Ha La La Uau Yah). HalleluYah! (Ha La La Uau Yah).

H   Haylal was to be towards Yah, but he was against Yah.

Shatan wanted to rule the temple of Yah whose ruler is Yahusha. The word for temple is ‘haykal’. Haykal is broken up into Ha Ya Ka La where Haya H1958 means ‘lamentation/wailing/woe’.

The word ‘hay’ is used only once in scripture as standalone but is used several times in the word ‘nahay’ which also means ‘wailing’

 Haya H1958: Lamentation/Wailing/Woe

Lal is the root word in the Hebrew word Layla/layil H3915 which means night, lal means ‘howl’

His title as ‘haylal put together is ‘Wailing & Howling’ , hence we need to understand it as a paradox as names/titles have both positive and negative meanings in Hebrew.

Shachar is translated as ‘morning’ but the pictograph is of the sun rising on the horizon while it is yet dawn. Hence some translations translate it as dawn.

N  Nu 24:17 I shall see him, but not now: I shall behold him, but not nigh: there shall come a Star (kukab) out of Jacob, and a Sceptre shall rise out of Israel, and shall smite the corners of Moab, and dig all the children of Sheth.t

2Pet 1:19 We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto you do well that you take heed, as unto a light that shines in a dark place, until the day dawn, the day star arises in your hearts.

John1:4 In Him was life, and the life was the Light of men.

The true dawn/morning star is Yahusha from whom comes the light of the knowledge of Aluahym

2Cor 4:6 For Aluahym, who said, Light shall shine out of darkness, is the One who has shone in our hearts to give the Light of the knowledge of the glory of Aluahym in the face of the Mashiyach.

Shachar Kukab (Bright and morning star) dispels the darkness whereas ‘haylal’ is the howling and wailing which happens in the night.

Is Devil his name?

Diabolos G1228 is a Greek word which comes from G1225 diaballo which means ‘to accuse’. Its translation of the word ‘shatan’ in Greek. Hence, diabolos is also not his name

Joh 8:44You are of your father the devil/diabolos G1228, and the desires of your father you wish to do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and has not stood in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks the lie, he speaks of his own, for he is a liar and the father of it.

διάβολος

diabolos

dee-ab'-ol-os

From G1225; a traducer; specifically Satan (compare [H7854]): - false accuser, devil, slanderer.

H7854 is shatan

Similarly, serpent, dragon leviathan etc. are only attributes depicting his character and he has no name, but Yahusha tells the Yahudites who said Abraham was their father and that they are free, he tells them description of their father hashatan/diabolos. He tells that hashatan was a murderer from the beginning and there is no truth in him, when he speaks a lie, he speaks of his own for he is a liar and father of it. This disapproves traditionalists theory of fall of hashatan for he never fell, he was and is the epitome of all evil. The traditionalists base the fall of hashatan based on 2 scriptures i.e., Luke 10:17-18 & Rev 12:10

Luk 10:17 And the seventy returned with joy, saying, “Master, even the demons are subject to us in Your Name.”

Luk 10:18 And He said to them, “I saw Satan falling out of the heaven as lightning/baraq.

Rev 12:10 And I heard a loud voice saying in the heaven, “Now have come the deliverance and the power and the reign of our Elohim and the authority of His Messiah, for the accuser of our brothers, who accused them before our Elohim day and night, has been thrown down

We saw in the study ‘How long did Ayob suffer?’ that hashatan doesn’t have access to the the throne of Yahuah but he came in among the sons of Elohim during the feast of Unleavened Bread (In Corporate worship).

The first reference Luke 10 is when Yahusha sent his disciples who came back stating that even the demons were subjected to them in Yahusha’s name (Luke 10:17). This is when Yahusha said He saw hashatan fall like lightning from heaven

We must compare spiritual things with spiritual. The voice among the voices was the magnificent voice of Yahuah among all the lightnings and the loud shopar. The writer of Hebrews says you are not come to that mount but to Mount Tsiyon, to the city of the living Elohim, to Yerushalam that is in the heavens, to Yahusha the Mediator of the renewed covenant whose voice/qol spoken from heaven, whom we will not escape if we turn away our ears from hearing his voice. This voice now shakes the heavens so that all those things that need removal when shaken are removed, as they are made, so that those things which cannot be shaken may remain.

Exo 19:16 And it came to be, on the third day in the morning, that there were voices/qolot and lightnings/baraq, and a thick cloud on the mountain. And a voice of a shophar was very strong, and all the people who were in the camp trembled.

Heb 12:18 For you have not come to a mountain being touched and burned with fire, and to cloud and gloom and a storm,

Heb 12:19 and not to the sound of a trumpet and to the voice/qol of words/dabarayam, so that those who hear it begged that the word should not be added to speak to them anymore.

Heb 12:20 For they could not bear what is commanded, if even a beast touches the mountain, it shall be stoned with a stone or shot through with an arrow

Heb 12:21 And the appearance was very much fearful, that Mosheh said, I am terrified and trembling

Heb 12:22 But you have come to Mount Tsion and to the city of the living Elohim, to Yerushalam that is in the heavens

Heb 12:23 and to the congregations of myriads of messengers, and the assembly of the firstborn who are written in the heavens, and to Elohim, the Judge of all, and to the spirits of the righteous made perfect,

Heb 12:24 and to Yahusha, the mediator of a new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling that speaks better things than that of the blood of Habel.

Heb 12:25 Therefore, take heed lest you refuse to hear Him that speaks. For if those did not escape when they refused to hear Him who spoke with them on the earth, how much less if we turn away to hear from the voice/qol of Him who speaks from the heavens/shamayim,

Heb 12:26 whose voice shook the earth then, but now He has promised, saying, Yet once more, I shall shake not only the earth, but also the heavens.

Heb 12:27 And this, Yet once more, that says, indicates the removal of those things which are shaken, as they are made, so that those things which cannot be shaken may remain.

Hence, hashatan who found place among Yasharal in fear, in keeping them away from Yahuah not being able to draw near, are now drawn near to the same Yahuah in the heavenly pattern which remains while the earthly is shaken. Hence, hashatan has no access to the heavenly pattern to accuse the elect of Yahuah through Torah as he could do in time past through the flesh.

Rev 12:10 is in the same lines as what we understand in Hebrews 12.
