Preface
This note explores Gematria, a traditional Yahudite method of interpreting Hebrew scriptures through numerical values assigned to letters, revealing hidden connections and prophetic meanings. It examines its historical origins, biblical applications, and spiritual significance, culminating in a redemptive narrative fulfilled in Yahusha, the Messiah.
🔢 I. What is Gematria?
Gematria is a traditional Yahudite method of interpreting Hebrew scriptures by calculating the numerical value of words. Each Hebrew letter has a numerical equivalent, and the sum of the letters in a word or name can point to deeper or hidden connections between words that share the same total.
There are three aspects to Gematria:
1. Numbers in scripture. e.g.: numbers 2, 3, 7, 19, 40, 42, 10, 100 etc. in patterns
2. Standard weight : Alphabets, Words & Weights Patterns
A. Numerical values of names, words which add up a value.
B. Weights & measurements used. For e.g. pattern given to Masha to build altars, tabernacle items with their measurements, measurements of grain offering, drink offering, ephah, bath, talent, minah etc.
3. Spiritual weight : Prophetic Wordplay
The coding of a divine order in numbers in scripture interpreting numbers, alphabets, words & weight patterns.
🏛️ Historical Origins of Gematria
1. Gematria and Ancient Semitic Culture

The idea of letters also being numbers existed from the earliest forms of Semitic scripts, including Phoenician, which influenced Paleo-Hebrew.

In the Hebrew system, each letter doubled as a number, so assigning numeric values was natural and structural, not invented later.

For example, the Dead Sea Scrolls include writings where numbers are hinted through letters.
So the mechanism of gematria existed long before it became a method of interpretation.
📜 II. Ancient Yashar’El and Gematria Use
- While Gematria as a formal method became widely used in Second Temple especially in Rabbinic texts, the idea of letters and numbers being interconnected was already present in biblical times. They went a step ahead to decode it.
- Examples like Daniel 5 (Mene, Mene, Tekel, Upharsin) reflect numerical/judgment wordplay, showing that values and weights were spiritually significant.
- Names in scripture (e.g., Abraham, YasharEL, David) often have numerical symbolism and prophetic design woven into them.
- Symbolic numerology and letter-number awareness were certainly present in ancient YasharEL
🔹 1. Numbers in scripture
Numbers like 3, 7, 12, 40, 70 etc. appear repeatedly with spiritual meaning. For example:

40 days/nights (the rain resulting in the flood, Moses, Yahusha’s fasting)

12 tribes/12 emissaries/24 elders (12 x2) = governance and completeness
Shemitah of the land denoted by 7, 7 x 7 + 1

70 nations (Genesis 10) = fullness of the nations
These patterns suggest numerical literacy and theology.
🔹 2. Alphabets, Word & Weights Patterns
Alphabets: Psalms (for example: Psalm 119) use acrostic patterns — every stanza beginning with successive Hebrew letters. This shows a deep reverence for the alphabet itself, which gematria builds upon.
Eze 45:11 “Let the ěphah and the bath be of the same measure/תכן takan H8506 , so that the bath contains one-tenth of a ḥomer/חמר H2563 , and the ěphah one-tenth of a ḥomer/חמר H2563. Let their measure/מתכנת matakanth H4971 be according to the ḥomer/חמר H2563.
🔹 3. Spiritual Weight: Prophetic Wordplay
Biblical Hebrew is full of plays on words that rely on similar sounds or structures, and some scholars believe numerical value awareness was part of that poetic language.
Example:
"Mene Mene Tekel Upharsin" (Daniel 5) — plays with measures and values in Hebrew, reflecting a weight/number system. (we will see what this means a bit later).
Daniel Chapters 1 and 8-12 are in Hebrew, while chapters 2-7 are in Aramaic. It is obvious that Daniel wrote the whole book in Hebrew but some portions of it are missing, hence, they were reverse translated into Aramaic. Hence, when we will see "Mene Mene Tekel Upharsin", we will see it in its Hebrew form and not Aramaic.🧬 Example: Was Gematria Used in Torah Days?
Though we don't have explicit verses saying "Moses calculated gematria," the structure of Hebrew makes it intrinsic. Consider:

Genesis 14: Abraham has 318 trained men by which he rescued his nephew Lot from the kings who took him captive
Eliezer (אליעזר), Abraham's servant, when he was Abram and he considered Eliezer as his heir, as Abraham was childless, Eliezer's gematria value = 318.
Did Moses encode this intentionally? Possibly — or he was guided by the Ruach to include numbers with prophetic depth.
In Ezekiel 28:12, addressing the king of Tyre, the Hebrew reads:
אַתָּה חֹתֵם תָּכְנִית מָלֵא חָכְמָה…
“You are the one sealing up the sum, full of wisdom…”
🔍 1. חתם (chatham)
– Pronounced: ho‑TEM (with vowels)
– Root: חתם (ch‑t‑m) — “to seal”
– Form: Piel participle — meaning “the one sealing” or “you seal”
🔍 2. תכנית (tokniyth)
– Pronounced: takh‑NEET
– Root: יכן (y‑k‑n / y‑k‑ḥ‑n) — “to measure, weigh, fashion”
– Meaning: “sum,” “pattern,” “measure,” or “completion”
Combined,
חתם תכנית conveys:
“You are sealing up the culmination, the perfect measure,”
implying the king adorned a measure of his own completion and perfection (carnally).

🏺 III. Ancient Weight System
In ancient Babylonian (and also Hebrew) systems:

1 shekel = base unit of weight

Note: "Peres" is singular of "Upharsin" and a pun on "Paras" (Persia).
🔢 Connection to Numbers and Weights
In Babylonian currency:

1 mina (maneh) = 60 shekels . Since, mina is used twice in the verse therefore, 60 x 2 =120

1 tekel (shekel) = base unit 1

1 peres (half-mina) = 30 shekels
120 + 1 + 30 = 151
In the parables of the kikkars/talents and minah in Matthew 25 & Luke 19 the trading elements were different between the 2 parables, but the spiritual significance and tie up between the 2 parables is the same.
In ancient YasharEL, the term "kikkar" (ככר) referred to a talent, a unit of weight, not a currency. It was the largest weight measurement used in ancient YasharEL and neighboring regions like Syria and Canaan during the 2nd millennium BC. The talent, or kikkar, was composed of 3,000 shekels. Matthew in his parable mentions kikkar.In Matthew's discourse we see the 3 servants are given kikars/talents as 5,2,1 (total 8) who brought back another 8
Mat 25:15 “And to one he gave five talents, and to another two, and to another one, to each according to his own ability, and went from home.
In the Luke's discourse we see out of 10 servants who were given a minah each only 3 bring back 10, 5 & 1=16. The remaining 7 were not accounted for, for they were part of the servants who didn't want him to reign over them and were killed. They are an imagery of carnal YasharEL who didn't want Mashyach as King.
Luk 19:13 “And calling ten of his servants, He gave them ten minas, and said to them, ‘Trade until I come.
Luk 19:16 “And the first came, saying, ‘Master, your mina has earned ten minas.’
Luk 19:18 “And the second came, saying, ‘Master, your mina has earned five minas.’
Luk 19:20 “And another came, saying, ‘Master, here is your mina, which I kept laid up in a head cloth
Luk 19:27 But those enemies of mine who did not wish me to reign over them, bring them here and slay them before me.’ ”
You add up totally what they brought back was 8+16 = 24 apart from what was given to them. So we total only the fruitfulness.
We see the produce brought back by the worthless servants as their inheritance was taken and given to the faithful ones
Mat 25:28 ‘Therefore take away the talent from him, and give it to him who possesses ten talents.
Luk 19:24 “Then he said to those who stood by, ‘Take the mina from him, and give it to him who possesses ten minas.’
The fewer remnant from the tribes who transitioned from the flesh to the Ruach in Yahusha spread the basharah/gospel and brought the completeness of all the lost sheep of the tribes in all ages in the kingdom. Example: 12 x 2 = 24 (12 tribes and 12 emissaries of the Lamb) or 24 elders as stated in the book of Revelation (Rev 5:8). The number 12 x 2 stands for all the spiritual number of the elect of Yahuah in both the OT and NT.
Rev 5:8 And when He took the scroll, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb, each holding a harp, and golden bowls filled with incense, which are the prayers of the set-apart ones.
Also we see 2 out of 3 were faithful in Matthew’s discourse and 2 out of 10 were faithful in Luke’s discourse as they brought in the lost sheep of the house of Yasharal while the others were dispersed. The number 4 significantly speaks of the elect bringing their brethren from the 4 corners of the earth. Number 4 in scripture denotes 'universal'.
Hence, mina = 60 shekel's & its usage here as mina mina i.e. 60 x 2 = 120 shekels shows a paradox. The physical Babylon comes in likeness of a pattern of YasharEL (120 -also shown as 12 x 10 ) but is lacking the unit i.e. the shekel value.
shekel (שקל) = shin (300) + quph (100) + lamed (30) = 430
YasharEL was 430 in captivity in sojourning (from Abraham to the Exodus). Minah may seem to hold a value of Elohim's people (12 x 10), but is lacking coz they are not walking in the footsteps of Abraham who sojourned as a stranger in the promised land and look towards heavenly Yerushalayim as the promised land.
Hence, upharsin i.e. they are divided in their allotment. They fall into a carnal lot. The valuation shows 1 more than 150 where 150 shows:
150 = 5 (Torah and grace) × 30 (fullness or maturity)
Number 5: 5 Books of the Torah, 5 fingers on the hand, feeding 5000 with 5 loaves (Mark 8:19) are some examples.
Number 30: The entry age for priesthood was 30 years and we see Yahusha the Melchitsedeq priest rising from the tribe of Yahudah which Masha never spoke of. Yahusha was 30 years of age when he began His ministry.
Luk 3:23 And when יהושע Himself began, He was about thirty years of age, being, as reckoned by law, son of Yosěph, of Ěli,
Heb 7:15 and this is clearer still, if another priest arises in the likeness of Malkitseḏeq,
Heb 7:16 who has become, not according to the torah of fleshly command, but according to the power of an endless life,
Num 4:2 “Take a census of the sons of Qehath from among the children of Lěwi, by their clans, by their fathers’ house,
Num 4:3 from thirty years old and above, even to fifty years old, all who enter the service to do the work in the Tent of Appointment.
Exo 21:32 “If the ox/שור H7794 gores a male or female servant, he is to give to their master thirty sheqels of silver, and the ox/שור H7794 is stoned.
The word translated a ox is shur שור H7794 and the same word H7788 also means a 'traveler/merchant'. Same word H7789 means 'spy out/lay in wait for evil'
Hence, we see 2 things in Exo 21:32:
1. 30 shekels of silver was the price of a slave, the price at which Yahusha was valued at
2. shur (שור) -they lied in wait to kill Yahusha as an ox which gores.
And as we see it’s related to the shekel as Yahuah himself was weighed at that price.
We see upharsin is 30 shekels (half a minah) and these 30 pieces of silver at which Yahusha was valued at was cast by Yahudah Iscariot in the Dwelling Place and the Sanhedrin because it was price of blood money, didn't place it in the temple treasury but purchased a potters field for burying strangers.
The Hebrew word for strangers is 'hagar הגר'
Mat 27:4 saying, “I have sinned in delivering up innocent blood.” And they said, “What is that to us? You see to it!”
Mat 27:5 And throwing down the pieces of silver in the Dwelling Place he left, and went and hanged himself.
Mat 27:6 And the chief priests took the silver pieces and said, “It is not right to put them into the treasury, seeing they are the price of blood.”
Mat 27:7 So they took counsel and bought with them the potter’s field, for the burial of strangers.
The Babylonian currency outwardly showed 60 shekels x 2 =120 (number of Yahuah's elect), 1 unit of shekel-weighed but lacking (word shekel-gematria is 430), 30 shekels -price of a slave-upharsin. i.e. 120 + 1 + 30 = 151. Displays a weight more than 5 x 30 =150 but lacking. This is a standard weight comparison with Yahuah's number pattern in scripture.
mina= 20 +25 + 15 = 60 shekels
Ezekiel is told by Yahuah that the Babylonian mina = 60 shekels
📘 Scriptural and Prophetic Reflection
In Hebrew, these words are richer in meaning because they relate directly to:
מנה (minah)– The act of divine accounting (Psalm 90:12 – “teach us to number our days”)
שקל (shekel) – Job 31:6 Ayob is asking Yahuah to use a righteous (tsadik) balance and measure him in shekel's. The language is poetic but has a valuation in mind.
פרס (paras) – A split, division — the fast Yahuah chose to be done by YasharEL was to divide the bread with the hungry. Isa 58:7 “Is it not to divide/פרס your bread with the hungry

Daniel’s interpretation is brilliant Hebrew & Aramaic punning:

🔥 Why is this a Gematria/Numerical Example?

The whole phrase is based on weights and measures, each carrying both literal monetary and spiritual judgment meanings.

Ancient scribes would have seen not only wordplay but a numeric value system at work: measured judgment — using known units.
✨ Prophetic Impact
The message says:

Your time is counted (Mene)

Your life is weighed and insufficient (sheqel)

Your kingdom is split and handed to others (Peres)
And that very night, Babylon fell (Daniel 5:30–31).
🧠 Daniel’s Prophetic Interpretation:
Daniel doesn't focus only on math. He takes the literal weight units and applies a spiritual judgment metaphor:
“You have been weighed in the balances and found wanting (light in weight).” (Daniel 5:27)
So the key issue is not just the 151 shekels themselves — but that they were supposed to match a standard weight, and did not and we will see this picture in gematria values as falling Short of Spiritual Fullness (Symbolic View)
🔹V. Standard Weight of a Full Kingdom
We saw the number 151 shows a value more than the spiritual number typology used. The number 151 shekels may be also seen numerically insufficient when compared to:

A full talent (ככר – kikkar) = 3000 shekels

Or even a full mina system (60 + 60 + 60) = 180 shekels
Thus:

151 is short of 180 → Suggests an incomplete rule or failed stewardship
-
151 is tiny compared to 3000 → Symbolizing that Belshazzar’s kingdom value is minuscule in Elohim's scales
Sheqel (weighed) implies comparison to a divine or righteous standard — and 151 comes up short.
🔹VI. Spiritual Weight of a Full Kingdom
✨ Picture 1: manah manah sheqel upharsin gematria in Hebrew is 1026.
Dan 5:1 Bělshatstsar the sovereign made a great feast for a thousand of his great men, and drank wine in the presence of the thousand.
Dan 5:3 Then they brought the gold vessels that had been taken from the Hěḵal of the House of Elah which had been in Yerushalayim. And the sovereign and his great men, his wives, and his concubines drank out of them.
Dan 5:4 They drank wine, and praised the elahin of gold, and of silver, of bronze, of iron, of wood and of stone.
The idea of Yahuah coming as a seed from Abraham into the womb of Sarah = 1072. Remember in the last video we spoke of the covenant of Brit Milah (covenant of circumcision), where Yahuah changed Abram name to Abraham and Sarai to Sarah and gave him the sign of circumcision which was a distinguishing marker?
In the first manah (מנה) if I add aleph whose gematria value is 1, then it becomes amanah (אמנה) which means ‘Faithful’. Aleph as a prefix makes the word "I will measure", but it becomes the part of the whole word and not prefix, though it may hold a spiritual concept of a change in now measuring as the aleph has entered to balance the measure. The word now means 'Faithful/Trustworthy' by adding the aleph. Remember the king of Babylon was feasting with his officers in the cups used in Yahuah's temple and the utensil or cups represent symbolically the body of the elect of Yahuah who would come in a body as Yahusha. Also Babel (בבל) has 2 beyt's which show a body ( ב) within a house (ב) leading (ל) which is deception. And Rev 17 & 18 talks about Babel as a spiritual kingdom & Yahusha will eventually destroy Mystery Babylon.
Re-writing with the Aleph (א) in the first manah (מנה) & adding Adam (אדם) changes the whole meaning as aleph (א) is the heavenly man i.e. Yahusha who makes the scale just scales and the measures, right measures. The gematria value now changes to 1027. We then if add 'Adam' to it which has a gematria value of 45, we get 1072.
אדם (Adam) = א(1) + ד(4) + ם(40) = 45
Daniel 5:25 now would read 'Amanah manah sheqel upharsin Adam (אמנה מנה שקל ופרסין אדם )

✨ The judgment finds its resolution in the Adam(mankind) whose fulfilment is — Yahusha the last Adam (1 Corin 15:45).

Yahuah in love as Messiah, the King of Righteousness offered Guilt Offering — as Adam (in human form).
Lev 5:2 ‘Or when a being touches any unclean matter, or the carcass of an unclean beast, or the carcass of unclean livestock, or the carcass of unclean creeping creatures, and it has been hidden from him, he is unclean and guilty.
Lev 5:3 ‘Or when he touches uncleanness of man, any of his uncleanness by which he is unclean, and it has been hidden from him, when he shall know it, then he shall be guilty.

Lev 5:7 ‘And if he is unable to bring a lamb, then he shall bring to יהוה, he who has sinned, two turtledoves or two young pigeons, one for a sin offering and the other for an ascending offering.

🔥 Theological Echo:
This is a clear picture of Isaiah 53, where Yahuah lays on Him the iniquity of us all, and He willingly becomes the Asham—the very priest and the offering.
Isa 53:10 But יהוה was pleased to crush Him, He laid sickness on Him, that when He made Himself an offering for guilt/asham אשם H817, He would see a seed, He would prolong His days and the pleasure of יהוה prosper in His hand.
This means:
Yahuah Himself, out of love, became the Messiah who came in the order of Melchizedek and offered Himself as a guilt offering for sin as Adam.

This equation reveals the method or vessel through which the divine plan was incarnated:

Yahuah (26) – The Divine Source.
